Man held at No.59 Village with 85.5 lbs ganja

On Sunday, 20th February 2022, Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) Officers while conducting operations in No. 59 Village Beach Front, Corentyne, Berbice intercepted a motor car with a sole occupant and discovered three bulky plastic-wrapped parcels of suspected cannabis.

A release from CANU said that Sean Benjamin, 48, was arrested and escorted to the CANU’s Berbice Office, along with the suspected narcotics.

He was later transferred to CANU HQ along with the suspected narcotics, where it was tested and proven to be cannabis weighing a total of 38.8kg (85.53 lbs) with a street value of approximately $11,640,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
