A 49-year-old unlicensed driver is now dead after he lost control of his car on the Schoonord Public Road, West Bank Demerara in the vicinity of the Demerara Harbour Bridge yesterday.
Dead is Joseph Charles of Lot 55 D’ Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown.
The accident occurred around 8.30am.
At the time, Charles was the driver of motorcar, PVV 4804 with 23-year-old Alex Saul of Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD) as a passenger.
Reports reaching Stabroek News revealed that motor lorry, GWW 4927 driven by a 41-year-old resident of Timehri, EBD was proceeding north along the western side of the public road while Charles was proceeding south along the eastern lane of the said road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed.
Stabroek News was told that enquiries revealed that Charles lost control of the car and collided with the front of the motor lorry. He then spun around and collided with motor car, PZZ 513.
As a result of the impact, Charles and Saul suffered injuries about their bodies. They were taken out of the car with the assistance of ranks of the La Grange Fire Service and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where Charles was pronounced dead on arrival.
Saul was treated and admitted to the said hospital. He suffered a fractured hip and left leg and his condition is listed as stable.
