The decomposed body of a Linden man, who is suspected to have drowned, has been found at the Sue-wanda Backdam, Puruni River, Region Seven.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the body of 33-year-old Marlon McCalmon, of One Mile Wismar, Linden, was discovered at Suewanda Backdam, Puruni River, on Monday.
McAlmon died sometime between Friday and Monday, the police said.
The police reported that the man operated a small dredging pump in the backdam along with two other men. The men told the police that they left their camp on Friday and went to the work ground where the dredge is located. The deceased was left behind and according to the men, he told them that he was too intoxicated to work. Upon their return to camp later that day they did not see the man at the camp but the clothes that he last wore were there along with freshly caught fish in a bucket.
The men proceeded to make checks around the area and the nearby river. However their efforts were futile. The checks later continued and on Monday the man’s body was seen afloat, bloated and in a decomposing state. The police added that the body was stuck between some branches in the Suewanda Creek.
When police arrived at the location they were able to confirm an advanced state of decomposition and what appeared to be fish bites were seen about the body. The release said that arrangements were being made to have the body escorted to Bartica then to Georgetown for a post-mortem examination.
