Restrictive policies are cutting across GPOC interconnectivity that directly influences the One Guyana Policy

Dear Editor,

I am extremely curious to ascertain if the wanton neglect of the Guyana Post Office Corporation is demonstrative of the lack of capacity of policymakers, or a direct attempt by the Irfaan Ali-led government to push the GPOC to natural death. Two very critical matters remain at the forefront of my mind.

First, can the President indicate why such a critical organ of the government, one that directly influences the One Guyana Policy because of its framework of interconnection, is without a Board for almost two years? What is even the policy of the government to ensure continuity of State Boards? Why should major decisions be bottlenecked by approvals that must be sanctioned by the Prime Minister of Permanent Secretary?  All of this is occurring against the backdrop of more restrictive policies by this government which have a direct negative impact on this auspicious institution.

As a former employee, who fought for the survival of the GPOC, I am pained; I am hurt. I am calling on the government to institute the Board as part of its fiduciary responsibility to the citizens of Guyana. I am also calling on the President, through Dr. Ashni Singh, to implement more supported fiscal measures to ensure the sustainability of the GPOC.

Sincerely,

Former Employee
