On March 5th, 2022, Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) Officers at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport intercepted a female passenger destined for Barbados with five mats laced with suspected cocaine during a secondary search of her luggage.
Akata Makeba Garnett, 22 years old, of ‘C’ Field Sophia squatting area, was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters with the suspected narcotic-laced items, which tested positive for cocaine with a total weight of 5.274 kg and a street value of $5.6 million.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Malika Scott, 32 years old, of Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Investigations are ongoing, a CANU release said today.
