Consistent rainfall yesterday forced the final of the ‘Big Man Cricket Banks Beer/Maximum Vodka T25’ to be rescheduled.
The 25-overs-a-side clash was set to take place at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground, Bourda between West Bank Warriors and Essequibo Eagles.
However, according to the organisers, a new date and venue will soon be announced.
On Saturday, Eagles marched into the final with a resounding nine-wicket win over giants, Jai Hind Jaguars at Bourda. Jaguars won the toss and batted, scoring 75 all out in 22.4 overs. Eagles needed just 10 overs to reach 78 for the loss of one wicket in reply.
Jaguars’ skipper, Anil Beharry and opener Imranally Hussain top scored with 17 each while Ramlinggum Mangali was the other batsman to reach double figures with 16. Manoj Lall took 3-15. He was supported by Bhesham Seepersaud (2-9), Daveanand Mahade (2-14) and Ramesh Narine (2-16).
Eagles soared to their target with Lall making 33 not out from 29 balls, laced with three fours and one six. Lall added 42 for the opening wicket with Dharmendra Lakan who made an 18-ball 13 before he was removed by Beharry.
Lall was joined by Narine who smashed five fours and a six on his way to 31 not out from 13 balls.
Meanwhile, Warriors ensured themselves a spot in the final later in the day after beating Georgetown Royal Rangers by six wickets.
Georgetown, sent in to bat, made 161 for three from their full quota while Warriors reached 162 for four with nine balls to spare.
Georgetown got off to a solid start with Mustafa Azimullah and Oslyn Batson sharing a 106-run opening partnership. Azimullah hammered three fours and three sixes before being run out for 67 off 53 balls.
Batson finished unbeaten on 67 from 78 balls, hitting four fours and one six. Arthur Duke chipped in with 16.
Deoram Persaud and Seecharran Persaud picked up a wicket each.
Anthony Ifill anchored the chase with a 48-ball 60, decorated with five fours and two sixes before he was caught and bowled by Nadir Baksh. With Dexter Jones (2-22) removing openers, Deoram Persaud (19) and Eion Williams (06) cheaply, Ifill added 81 for the third wicket with Ganesh Persaud who made 28 from 30 balls before being bowled by Duke.
Patrick Khan raced to 26 not out from 19 balls while an unfinished ball-a-run 16 from Sohan Bedesse saw Warriors over the line.
