Still feeling reverberations of mockery to womanhood by Member of Parliament

Dear Editor,

I am grateful for all the sincere congratulatory and uplifting messages regarding International Women’s Day. However I have to admit that many of the messages, public commemorating of events, rang slightly hollow to me. I am still hearing and feeling the reverberations of insulting, demeaning, degrading mockery to womanhood made by a Member of Parliament recently. That the Speaker would say nothing loudly; that the Chief Whip – a woman no less, would leap up to sanction an objector, flawed though he is, and say nothing of the source of the objections and that women Ministers of the Government, in particular one whose responsibility is the well-being of women, would sit there and utter not one word, either then or till this day, is shameful. It makes me question the sincerity of these earnest seekers of my respect, support and admiration of their leadership. It diminishes the value of their valiant actions on behalf of women. To all of our women, Stand Strong.

Sincerely,

Marie Anne Cholmondeley
