A woman and her daughter were yesterday charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding a relative during a scuffle at their home.

Melanie Stewart, 47, and Steffany Dick, 26, both vendors of East La Penitence, George-town, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where they were both charged and released on $70,000 bail.

It is alleged that on January 9, at East La Penitence, George-town, the pair unlawfully and maliciously wounded Nalisa McKenzie with intent to maim, disfigure, disable, or cause grievous bodily harm.

According to the police prosecutor, McKenzie went to East La Penitence, where Stewart and Dick reside. During the course of the visit, Stewart and McKenzie had an argument which saw Dick also getting involved. A scuffle ensued and Dick reportedly choked McKenzie causing her to fall to the ground.

Stewart and Dick then used a stick to strike the woman about her body. An ambulance was summoned and the victim was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital. She was examined by a doctor and admitted to the hospital. A report of the matter was made to the police and the two women were arrested. They were later released on $15,000 station bail each.

With no objections to bail from the prosecutor, the Magistrate released the duo on $70,000 bail on the condition that they do not go within 50 feet of McKenzie. They were also instructed that they cannot send anyone to speak to her on their behalf.

The matter was adjourned until March 16.
