The Inaugural Shameer Baksh Memorial Cup is set for tomorrow with Blairmont Cricket Club Blazers battling Albion Community Centre Cricket Club in a 50-over contest at Albion, Berbice.
Both sides boast powerful line-ups and it is expected to be a high-octane encounter between the Berbice titans.
According to sponsor and owner of popular food entity in Berbice (with a branch soon to open at Movietowne) Shabeer Baksh, this match serves as both a relationship building exercise and preparation for the upcoming first-division season.
“Knowing first-division is starting back soon, we want to get the players in order and also build a relationship with Albion,” he declared.
“We all know Albion has a good track record and I’m looking forward to a good challenge and competitive cricket,” the businessman added.
He said that the match is anticipated to be chock full of entertainment with some of the brightest talents in the County on display.
“Both sides have future and present West Indies players, former national youth players. There are some young players who will learn a lot from this exposure,” he reasoned.
Albion is packed with experienced campaigners including out-of-favour West Indies leg-spinner, Devendra Bishoo and current West Indies left-arm spinner, Gudakesh Motie. First-class wicketkeeper, Anthony Bramble, is also in the side along with veteran player Jonathan Foo.
Blairmont is equally up to the challenge with West Indies off-spinner, Kevin Sinclair, in the squad as well as former West Indies under-19 batsman, Kevlon Anderson. Former national youth players, Nigel Deodat, Seon Glasgow and Javed Karim are also in the mix.
