Convict serving life sentence gets four more years over ganja

Convicted John Caesar, who is currently serving a life sentence, was yesterday sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $2.5 million after he was admitted to being in possession of a quantity of narcotics at the Mazaruni prison.

Caesar, 39, appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge. Caesar was subsequently sentenced and also ordered to pay a fine of $2,587,500.

The police, in a statement yesterday, said that around 07.25 hrs last Thursday, prison officers performing their duties observed Caesar walking towards the security block.
