‘Lady Janet’ dental boat redeployed for Pomeroon operations

Over 2,000 persons living in the riverain communities in the Upper and Lower Pomeroon River, in Region Two, are expected to have better access to quality dental services with the redeployment of the rehabilitated ‘Lady Janet’ dental boat.

The boat, named after the late former President Janet Jagan, was refurbished at a cost of $2.8 million.

The services to be offered will include fillings, cleanings, extractions and oral health education.

The vessel was recommissioned by Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Nigel Dharamlall, Regional Chairperson Vilma De Silva and Regional Vice Chairman Humace Oodit. 

Senior Dental Surgeon Dr Subriena Harrychan said that she was happy with the redeployment of the boat, which will serve over 2,000 residents in the Upper and Lower Pomeroon River. She said children and improving their oral health would be her focus. Adults will also be treated during the outreaches that would be launched. 

Dr Harrychan said that the boat will be in operation on Mondays and Tuesdays and will be staffed by dental technicians. The Ministry of Health will be providing more equipment and instruments for the boat.
