Jamaul John’s dominance in local cycling continued Sunday when he won the Open category of the 21st annual Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Diamond Mineral Water 50-mile road race in Region Three.

The Team Foundation rider, in wet conditions, crossed the finish line at Schoonord in a time of one hour, 39 minutes and 42 seconds after leaving that point to travel to Bushy Park, Parika and back. His timing was five minutes and 48 seconds better than the last fixture in 2019 which was won by Marcus Kieler.

John was trailed by Andre “Padlock” Greene and Romello Crawford.

Team Evolution’s Paul DeNobrega finished fourth while Curtis Dey and Christopher Griffith were fifth and sixth respectively.

Dey secured two prime prizes while John, Greene, DeNobrega and Adelie Hodge copped one each.

Over in the Junior division, We Stand United’s Alex Leung secured victory with Team Alanis’ Sherwin Sampson second and Kaieteur Attack’s Adiani Cutting third.

Alex Mendes was the top rider in the veteran’s category ahead of Robin Persaud and Junior Niles second and third respectively.

In the female division, Marica Dick emerged victorious with Clavicia Spencer second.

A total of 41 riders turned out for the event.
