Police at Linden recovered over 16 pounds of cannabis on Monday during the attempted arrest of a man, who ditched the drugs and his motorcycle to make his escape.
A Guyana Police Force released that was issued yesterday said the ranks attempted to make the arrest around 22:00 hrs when they intercepted a man riding an XR motorcycle without a light or licence plate in the vicinity of Millie’s Hide Out, Amelia’s Ward.
According to the police, the man had a white bulky salt bag in his possession and upon seeing the police vehicle attempted to flee but was pursued by ranks. As a result, he dismounted the motorcycle and made good his escape on foot within the vicinity of some thick vegetation at Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
“The bulky bag was retrieved and when opened, same contained a large quantity of compressed leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis sativa wrapped in transparent plastic along with one bulky black plastic bag containing suspected cannabis sativa which when weighed, amounted to 16.5 pounds (7,484.3 grams).
Police said they are continuing the search for the man.
