The World Athletics Indoor Championships returns for the first time in four years starting today in Belgrade, Serbia, and Guyana will be represented by a four-member team.
Olympians, Aliyah and Jasmine Abrams will spearhead the outfit which also includes sprinter, Travis Collins, and 800m athlete, Quamel Prince. Aliyah will compete in the 400m while Jasmine and Collins will match spikes with their rivals in the 60m dash.
A total of 680 athletes from 137 teams are entered to compete in Serbia, with the pentathlon 60m hurdles kicking things off this morning and the men’s 4x400m final bringing competition to a close on Sunday evening.
In an invited comment, President of the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG), Aubrey Hutson, said he expects the quartet to be competitive and vying for spots on the podium.
Aliyah will begin Guyana’s medal hunt today in the 400m heats from 18:40hrs. Prince gets into action an hour later in the 800m heats, while the 60m men’s and women’s heats will commence at 17:45hrs tomorrow.
