Following the approval by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) for the staging of the annual Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward 9-a-side knockout tournament, coordinator Lennox Arthur has confirmed that all systems are in place, with Mid Atlantic Oil and Gas Company confirming sponsorship of the $600,000 first prize.
This was disclosed by a release from the organizing committee.
According to the correspondence, Arthur praised the company for its timely contribution as well as the GFF for their approval of the event, which is set to commence on Sunday at the Buxton Community ground.
“The event, organised by former national footballer and Coach Lennox Arthur, has been held for some 40 years now and is in recognition of former Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton Green, who was also a former Prime Minister of Guyana. The current Mayor of Georgetown Ubraj Narine,” stated the release.
The other playing dates are April 3rd, 9th, 10th, 17th, with the final pegged for the 24th. The second, third and fourth place finishers will pocket $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Notable teams from various environs are scheduled to complete. They are: West Demerara – Den Amstel, Uitvlugt, Pouderoyen, Stewartville, Wales, Sara Lodge, West Side Masters, Belle West All Stars and Back Street Kings.
