Rewa Eco-Lodge wins Green Destinations recognition for heritage preservation through community tourism

Rewa-Eco lodge, located in the North Rupununi, Region Nine, was recently awarded second place in the ‘Communities & Culture’ category at the 2022 Green Destinations Story Awards.

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) announced the conferral of the award. “Through the support of the GTA, Rewa Eco-Lodge presented a detailed conservation story on the Arapaima species and the sustainable steps that they have implemented to mitigate the challenges faced by the community. Once again, congratulations to Rewa on an excellent job!” the GTA said in a statement.

The Green Destinations Story Awards is an annual ceremony to showcase and celebrate the most inspirational “good practice” stories of resilient tourism practices from Green Destination’s Top 100 Competition. Only destinations that were part of the 2021 Top 100 list were eligible for nomination to the awards.

In addition to “Communities & Culture,” awards were also conferred in the categories of “Localising and Decarbonising the Destination Supply Chain,” “Environment & Climate,” “Nature & Ecotourism,” and “Tourism Reset & Recover.”

The awards ceremony, organised by Green Destinations in partnership with GLP Films and ITB Berlin, was held virtually on March 11.
