Shomari Wiltshire came from behind to defeat Jason Ray-Khalil 3-2 in a five-set thriller to clinch the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) senior men’s championship yesterday at the Georgetown Club facility, Camp Street.
The contest started poorly for Wiltshire who lost the opening salvo 10-12.
It went from bad to worse for Wiltshire as he stumbled to a 0-2 deficit after losing the second set 12-14.
However, the eventual comeback was initiated in the third set where Wiltshire edged his opponent 12-10.
Parity was then restored to proceedings at 2-2 when Wiltshire prevailed 11-9 in the fourth set.
The come-from-behind victory was sealed in the deciding fifth set which Wiltshire won 11-3.
Meanwhile, Alex Arjoon defeated Daniel Ince 3-1 in the third place playoff. Arjoon romped to the early lead after securing the first set 11-6. A 2-0 advantage was then realized after he clinched the second set 11-9.
However, Ince reduced the deficit by winning the hard-fought third set 15-13. Nonetheless, any effort of an Ince comeback was smothered after Arjoon walked away with the fourth set 11-5.
