The preliminary round of the Georgetown Cricket Association/ New Building Society’s 40-over second-division tournament concluded last weekend with Police Sports Club joining Georgetown Cricket Club, Muslim Youth Organisation and Demerara Cricket Club in the  semifinals after beating Ace Warriors by 173 runs and GNIC by five wickets.

Playing at home Sunday, Police batted first, posting 257 all out in 35.1 overs before restricting Ace Warriors to 84 all out in 19.4 overs.

For Police, Pernell London smashed nine fours and a six during his unbeaten 92 from just 76 balls and added 55 for the 10th wicket with Keston Harcourt (13) and 45 for the eighth wicket with Vishal Jaigobin (16).

Earlier, Andrew Lyght Jr., laid the foundation with 42 from 39 balls, with two fours and two sixes. Extras tallied  48 to the total.

Devindra Lall took 3-39 while Trevor Cato removed Jaigobin and Stephon Johnson with successive deliveries to end with 2-8. Junior Phillips chipped in with 2-41.

In the chase, Jaigobin grabbed 3-3 and Harcourt 3-9. Rawle Enmore top scored with 38 from 52 balls while Nkosi Whyte made 20. Extras accounted for 14.

On Saturday, GNIC posted 128 all out in 35 overs and Police required just 17 overs to reach 129 for five.

Ovid Richardson top scored with 37 from 58 balls while David Dick chipped in with 24 and Shawn Desouza 19.

Ameer Mohamed picked up 5-20 while London and Troy Benn captured  two wickets each.

Kevin Christian made  a composed 62 from 55 balls, with seven fours and two sixes before being trapped leg before wicket to Trevon Jones (2-24). Christian was supported by Chemroy Kendall with 18 while Extras chalked up 29. Rashidi Benjamin picked up 2-44.

With the wins, Police moved to second in Zone B with 102 points, equal to Everest Cricket Club who slipped to third but advanced due to their win over Everest. DCC topped the group with 124 points. In Zone A, GCC led the way with 136 points while MYO trailed in second with 113 points.

Police will now face GCC while DCC will battle MYO in the semis.
