Guyana Breweries Incorporated (GBI) under its 592 Beer brand, will serve as the titular sponsor of the ‘Skills for Cash’ seven-a-side football tournament, which commences tomorrow at the No. #5 Ground, West Coast, Berbice.
The competing teams which hail from the Berbice and East Coast Demerara communities are: Cougar, Rosignol United, Monedderlust United, Hope Town, No. #30 Village, No. #42 Village, Paradise United, Airy Hall, Mahaica, Ann’s Grove United, Victoria Kings United, Golden Stars, Paradise, and Melanie FC. Each team will be allowed three guest players.
The winner of the event will pocket $300,000, with the second, third and fourth place finishers receiving $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively. Organised by Cool Crew Promotion and Virgil Watts Construction, the tournament is in its third edition having missed the last two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
GBI Marketing Manager, Melina Telesford, stated, “Football is a well-loved sport in the participating communities, and it is our goal to keep the football spirit alive through partnerships like these. I’d like to congratulate the promoters of this event for organizing in such a big way to deliver a thrilling experience to the players and fans of football.” Meanwhile, Lynton Luke, head of tournament coordinators, Cool Crew Promotion, praised the company for their partnership in making the event a reality, adding that the competition will be hosted at different venues in Berbice and East Coast Demerara.
