The annual Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward 9-a-side knockout football tournament will start today at the Buxton Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara from 17:00hrs.
In the opening match, Mahaica will oppose 50 United, while Church-Yard will engage Golden Grove from 17:30hrs.
The third fixture at 18:00hrs will pit Victoria against Melanie, whilst Buxton Youth Developers take aim at Beterverwagting (BV) from 18:30hrs. Similarly, Friendship Front will match skills with Paradise at 19:00hrs, and Brusche Dam will lock horns with Haslington from 19:30hrs.
In the second wave of fixtures, the winner of fixture one will oppose the victor of match four at 20:00hrs, while winner of match two and five respectively will face-off from 20:30hrs. Likewise, the victors of matches three and six will battle at 21:00hrs, while the winner of fixture seven will oppose a team emanating from the earlier qualifiers.
The event continues April 3rd at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground. The other playing dates are 9th, 10th, 17th, with the final pegged for the 24th. Winner of the event will walk away with $600,000, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will pocket $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
