The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will deploy 50 ranks from various units to Exercise Tradewinds (ETW) 2022, which will be held in Belize from May 7-21, 2022.
This exercise is being hosted by Belize and Mexico.
The Force was represented by Staff Officer One, General Five – Future Plans and Strategy, Major Jaime Castello at the final coordinating conferences which were held in Belize City, Belize last week, a release from the GDF said.
Among those participating in the event, will be 14 representatives from the Colonel Robert Mitchell Jungle and Amphibious Training School (CRMJATS) at Makouria, Essequibo. As such, the base has seen a hive of activity over the last few days. The release said that ranks have engaged in several aspects of Jungle and Amphibious training including combat swimming, team swimming in combat uniform, endurance pack march, live firing of different weapon systems, along with special skills and survival training.
During this refreshers’ exercise, two jungle instructors made history when they swam across the Essequibo River in a record of two hours. Officer Commanding CRMJATS, Captain Kaya Dover and Principal Instructor, Lieutenant Jubal West swam from the eastern side covering a distance of approximately 3 miles. The two Officers are part of the team that will represent Guyana at the multinational exercise and will function as Jungle instructors for the exercise.
