Chain snatcher gets nine months in jail

A man was sentenced to nine months in jail yesterday for an attack in which he and another man on a motorbike robbed a woman in East La Penitence.

Troy Baird, 22, of 216 South Road, was handed the sentence by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he pleaded guilty to larceny.

According to the charge against Baird, on March 26, 2022, at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, he stole a gold chain valued $47,000 and a Samsung cell phone, valued $120,000, which were the property of Jacqueline Forde.

The court was informed that Baird was the pillion rider on a motorcycle ridden by another man and together they snatched the woman’s chain.

After the chain snatching, the woman’s phone fell and Baird reportedly picked up the phone from the road and the duo escaped on the motorcycle.
