Four persons were yesterday rescued by the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) after the car in which they were in crashed into the canal along Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown.
In a statement yesterday, the GFS said at the time of the incident, motor car PSS 624 was occupied by four persons including the driver, who has been identified as Matthew Clarke of Dazzel Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara
Clarke along with the three other occupants were trapped in the car and sustained injuries. They were rescued and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
The GFS is appealing to citizens to exercise caution when using the roadways.
“Speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of accidents, some of which claimed the lives of both young and old. Citizens are therefore urged to buckle up, slow down and adhere to the traffic laws in place to ensure safety on the roadways,” the statement said.
