Incumbent Otis James was re-elected unopposed as President of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA), when the entity staged its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Electoral Congress yesterday at the Cara Lodge Hotel on Quamina Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown.
The James-led slate was nominated by Eastville FC and seconded by Black Pearl FC. The other elected members of the slate are Vice-Presidents Faizal Khan, Clifton Adams, and Dirk Exeter; General Secretary, Adrian Barrow; Treasurer, Ackram Sabree; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Jenill Browne; and Committee Members, Lomell Johnson and Michelle DeAbreu.
Khan and Barrow were absent at the elections as they were out of the jurisdiction at the time. Lyndon France, Technical Development Officer of the Guyana Football Federation, served as the returning officer for the election.
James during an invited comment said, “As the President of the GFA, my executive always looked out for the clubs at the association so it was easy for us to be reelected unopposed. The seven members of the executive inclusive of the committee members are all from different clubs within the association so our agenda is based on getting football being played in Georgetown and develop the club structure so that we create better clubs within the communities.”
He further remarked, “Our main focus is development. The first thing is getting back the ATC [Academy Training Centre] on track which paved away for youth growth. Also we will be introducing the U7-U11 program. It’s a grassroots program which we believe can develop players at a faster rate in the association because the fundamentals will be in place at an earlier age. The GFA is in good hands.”
Presently, 13 clubs are affiliated to the GFA. They are: Beacons FC, Georgetown Football Club, Pele FC, Camptown FC, Black Pearl FC, Order and Discipline, Eastville United FC, GT Panthers FC, Riddim Squad, Vengy FC, DFK, Northern Rangers, and Wolves United FC.
Wolves United FC, Beacons FC, and Northern Rangers, were not be eligible to vote as they are presently not fully constituted.
