The parents of a nine-year-old boy are seeking the public’s assistance to raise funds so that he can undergo a lifesaving heart surgery.
Dilon Edwards, of Wismar, Linden was born with an enlarged heart. The surgery can be done in Guyana at a cost of approximately $8.3 million (or US$40,000).
His mother, Roxanne Edwards, yesterday told Sunday Stabroek that her child’s condition has worsened over the years. “While he was growing then we getting trouble with it. He get a hole in his heart and when he was six-years-old they said the hole tear…Four months back, some doctor from India come and said the same thing. It tearing more bad,” the woman explained said.
At present, Dilon is dependent on an oxygen tank to breathe. “He can’t walk around too much because we got to keep him on oxygen. Only when he not eating then he doesn’t be on it,” Roxanne said.
According to Roxanne, Dilon has been unable to attend school for months now. “He can’t go to school, he can’t study. He does get headache, cold sweat, sometimes blackout,” she noted.
Roxanne related that some relaitves from Holland had promised to donate half of the cost for the surgery. Another amount was raised through donations from the public.
The woman told Sunday Stabroek that she is finding it hard to cope since she has five other children to care for, inlcuding a two-year-old.
