After being closed for more than two years over the COVID-19 pandemic, the Zoo is to reopen from tomorrow.
A notice in today’s Sunday Stabroek said that The Botanical Gardens and The Guyana Zoological Park & Wildlife Rescue Centre on Vlissengen Road will reopen to the general public from tomorrow.
It said that no unauthorised vending will be permitted
The Protected Areas Commission (PAC) and the National Parks Commission (NPC) closed the Georgetown Zoo from March 17, 2020.
This move was a part of the Commissions’ efforts to safeguard and protect staff and citizens from the COVID-19 threat.
“As much as we appreciate and encourage all of Guyana to take advantage of the convenience of our protected areas including our urban parks, we understand that health and safety are important and must always be the main priorities”, the PAC had said then.
