A 16-year-old La Penitence, Georgetown resident was stabbed to death yesterday afternoon and the suspect is currently in police custody.
Dead is Isaiah Smith of Lot 100 Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown.
He was stabbed once in his abdomen during the incident which occurred around 2.55 pm at Hogg Street and Independence Boulevard, Georgetown.
The suspect who has been identified as a 45-year-old labourer was subsequently arrested. Police also recovered the suspected murder weapon, a knife.
Reports are that the suspect occupies a wooden shack located on the parapet at the junction of Hogg Street, Alboystown and Independence Boulevard. On the eastern side of the shack there is a bench.
According to a police statement, Smith and the two of his teenage friends were sitting on the bench when the suspect ordered that they move.
While his friends adhered to the order, the police said Smith refused and was slapped by the suspect.
This resulted in an altercation during which Smith got up and pointed his hand in the suspect’s face.
The suspect then whipped out a knife from his pants waist and stabbed Smith, the police said.
Smith ran a few feet away before he collapsed.
He was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
