Stafrei Alexander and Owen Belfield are now awaiting sentencing after being convicted last Friday of the 2015 murder of Linden resident, Richard Remmington, whose decomposing remains had been found in a clump of bushes.
Following hours of deliberations, a jury on Friday evening returned unanimous verdicts—finding both accused guilty as charged—of murdering Remmington between February 9th and 12th of 2015.
Justice Brassington Reynolds has deferred their sentencing to April 22nd, pending the presentation of probation reports, impact statements from relatives of the deceased and other social reports.
Remmington’s remains were discovered along a track in the vicinity of Matthews Lane in the Cholmondeley Hill area on February 12th, 2015.
He had reportedly been shot three times, including once to the head.
Following police investigations, the duo was arrested and charged.
Both men were represented by defence attorney Adrian Thompson, while the State’s case was presented by prosecutor Seeta Bishundial.
The trial was heard at the High Court in Demerara.
