The calendar has flipped to April and the buzz and the vitriol is heating up around the ‘Guyana Fight Night Road to Redemption’ card.
One of the combatants on the April 23 event which will take place at the National Stadium, Laured ‘The Lion’ Stewart, has proclaimed his eagerness to hunt and demolish his prey, Romeo Norville and seek redemption after dropping a decision to the latter in the amateur ranks.
Stewart will meet Norville in a four-round, light heavyweight bout on the card which will be headlined by Elton Dharry with Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques in the co-feature.
Stewart recently promised the boxing starved fans “will hear the lion roar” as he seeks to have redemption over Norville who who he opines he was robbed before they graduated to the professional ranks. Stewart states that while the judges card had it as Norville won, he don’t believe he did, and this fight will be where he earns his long awaited revenge.
The USA based comedian was all business when he stated that “The time is right especially since coming off my first ever loss to American Julien Renaud.”
The ‘Lion’ is now hungry and looking to eat and improve his resume which now stands at 3-1-0.
Will Stewart get his redemption or will Norville continue to reign over the ‘King of the Jungle’? That question will be answered on April 23.
Meanwhile, the event which has an international flavour with a blend of talented youths and experience will see the return of Imran ‘Magic’ Khan, James Walcott and Quincy Gomes.
Also, debutants, Stephen Da Silva and Richard James will match gloves in a lightweight four-rounder.
The USA based Dharry will face the undefeated Orlando Penalba from Panama.
Penalba has an unblemished record in 12 fights with a draw and will be facing Dharry in the featured bout of the evening.
Dharry who has large fan base in the 592, will fight for the spoils of the WBC International super flyweight title while Marques will face flyweight, Gilberto Pedroza also of Panama be in the co-main event for the WBC Silver belt.
Khan will take on Anthony Narine in a six-round middleweight bout while Walcott will lace it up against James Moore in a four-round light heavyweight fight.
Gomes, one of the brightest local prospects, will look to add another win to his record when he takes on Barbados based Charwin Estwick for the local junior middleweight title.
