The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched a site at the Giftland Mall for the submission of tax returns and the registration of taxpayers.
The establishment of the site yesterday followed on the heels of the setting up of a similar facility at the Amazonia Mall two weeks ago.
The sites have also been set up with the aim of preventing overcrowding at GRA offices.
“…We want to make it quite convenient for persons to submit their tax returns instead of going to the Guyana Revenue Authority Headquarters,” said Fabian Clowes, GRA Communications Officer, at a short media briefing yesterday at the Giftland Mall.
Clowes added that as of Monday, a satisfactory number of persons have been submitting their tax returns on a daily basis but the number is still far less than it was prior to the pandemic period “where we had picked up a great number in the submissions.”
Clowes noted that in previous years there was an average of around 200 filings of tax returns per day, while the figure for Monday to yesterday when the new site was launched was less than 100.
He suggested that the online submission option may have also resulted in the reduction of physical submissions.
Also speaking at the briefing was GRA Public Relations Manager Marcia Harris, who encouraged persons to take advantage of the various sites as well as the online E-Service site, and not to let the due date pass since there are consequences.
The deadline is April 30, 2022. The Giftland Mall and Amazonia Mall sites will be available up until April 29, 2022, with registration being from 10:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs on Thursdays and from 10:00 hrs to 15:00 hrs on Friday.
