Police are probing the death of a 68-year-old West Bank Demerara vagrant who is believed to have died sometime between Wednesday night and yesterday morning. The deceased’s body was discovered with what appeared to be burn marks to the left side of his body.
The dead man has since been identified as Chatterpaul Budhiprasad also known as ‘Quarry’.
According to police Budhiprasad, who has no fixed place of abode, was discovered about 6am yesterday by a passerby, lying on a stall at Wales, West Bank Demerara, with what looked like burn marks about his body. As such, the individual informed the police.
Police ranks who responded found Budhiprasad sitting motionless on a mattress. Further investigation revealed burn marks to the man’s left side buttock, left hand and left leg. A burnt-out makeshift coil was seen on the burnt mattress.
According to the police, the deceased is a known smoker and would often be seen lighting various items at the abandoned stall where he usually sleeps.
Budhiprasad was last seen alive around 8pm on Wednesday night when his nephew took food for him and left shortly after. It was also reported that the he had complained of not feeling well on the left side of his body.
His body is currently at Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
Investigations are ongoing.
