Labourer remanded over fatal stabbing of 16-year-old

A labourer was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old on Monday.

Lenny Fraser, 45, of Hogg Street and Indepen-dence Boulevard, George-town, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he was charged with the murder of 16-year-old Isaiah Smith.

Fraser was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which was read by Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan. He was remanded to prison until April 28, 2022.

The Guyana Police Force reported that Smith was stabbed once in his abdomen after an altercation with the accused near his home.

It was noted that the accused occupied a wooden shack located on the parapet at the junction of Hogg Street, Albouystown and Independence Boule-vard, where a bench is located on the eastern side.

Smith and two other teenage friends were sitting on the bench when the accused ordered that they move. While his friends complied, Smith, the police said, refused and was slapped by the man, which led to the fatal altercation.

Smith got up and pointed his hand in Fraser’s face. Fraser then allegedly whipped out a knife from his waistband and dealt Smith a stab to the abdomen.

The teen ran a few feet away before he collapsed. He was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
