Teen wanted by cops over killing of Swan miner

Almost two weeks after a miner succumbed at a city hospital, the police on Friday issued a wanted bulletin for his alleged killer.

Dead is Joseph Davis, 41, of Swan Village, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

As a result, Joshua Williams, 19, whose last known address is also Swan Village, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, is wanted by police.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday confirmed that the incident that led to Davis’ hospitalization took place around 01.00hrs on March 19 but did not provide any information about how it occurred or the injuries the now dead man sustained.

The GPF only announced the killing after the police issued a wanted bulletin for Williams on Friday.

After the bulletin was issued, several media houses requested information relating to the killing of Davis. However, the requests were ignored by Deputy Director of the GPF’s Corporate Communications Unit Stan Gouveia, who had issued the wanted bulletin on behalf of the force.

Yesterday morning, there was a follow up to the request by a member of the media and Director of the force’s Corporate Communications Unit Mark Ramotar provided a subsequent response but it did not include any information on how the killing occurred.

He said that based on information provided to him, ranks of the Timehri Police Station went to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) on three occasions after the incident to interview Davis and obtain a statement but they were unable to do so.

Davis, Ramotar said, was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit following a surgery. “He was not in a position to make a statement,” Ramotar said.

He noted that around 09.20 hrs on March 27, a rank returned to the hospital to interview Davis and was informed by a nurse that Davis succumbed earlier that day while receiving treatment.

Anyone who might have seen or has information on the whereabouts of Williams is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 216-0251, 216-0254, 216-0251, 444-3429, 225-6978, 225-8196 or the nearest police station.
