The Bartica Easter Regatta football knockout tournament will commence this evening at the Community Centre ground from 17:00hrs with a tripleheader.
According to a release from tournament organizer, the Bartica Football Association (BFA), the opening match will pit Agatash United against AK Galaxy. In the second encounter, Wolves United will oppose Potaro Strikers from 19:00hrs, whilst Lazio will lock horns with Beacons from 21:00hrs in the final encounter.
The event will resume Tuesday at the same venue. Rising Stars will engage Rivers View from 19:00hrs while Mil Ballers will match skills with the victor of the Agatash United/AK Galaxy encounter at 21:00hrs.
Winner of the event will pocket an ounce of gold, with the second place finisher collecting $200,000. The third place side will walk away with $100,000.
The release also stated that four female teams will compete for first and second-place prizes of $30,000 and $20,000 respectively while all players will receive medals. The teams will be managed by the following clubs, Rivers View, Lazio, Potaro Strikers, and AK Galaxy.
The women’s section will commence on Wednesday. The event will also be conducted on Thursday, with the respective finals scheduled for Saturday.
BFA President Alden Marslowe said that he envisions a competitive tournament in both divisions while Chairman of the Bartica Regatta Com-mittee, Regional Chairman Kenneth Williams, said they were looking forward to support from the public.
“We look forward to some entertaining days of football and we know that the public will come out in their numbers to support and cheer on their favourite team.”
Meanwhile,General Equipment Guyana Limit-ed (GENEQUIP) is the latest sponsor of the tournament. Nikita Mohabir, Senior Sales Manager of GENEQUIP, presented the sponsorship cheque to Bartica Regatta Committee representative Magiva Gonsalves recently.
During brief remarks, Mohabir stated, “We are more than happy to be giving back to this community, especially at a time when you are seeking to get back to normalcy following the challenges that would have been presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a company, we are also well aware of what Regatta means to the community and we are happy to see this marquee event back again and wish you the best for a successful event.”
