LONDON, CMC – West Indies seamer Kemar Roach snatched two early wickets to initially leave Warwickshire’s reply in turmoil before Matthew Lamb’s second first class hundred bailed the hosts out here yesterday.

Resuming the third day at Edgbaston on 16 for two in pursuit of Surrey’s 428 for eight declared, Warwickshire ended on 293 for seven, still behind by 135 runs heading into today’s final day in the West Midlands.

At one stage, Warwickshire were reeling 41 for four after Roach (3-82) struck twice within the first half hour.

With no runs yet added in the morning’s second over, the 33-year-old removed Danny Briggs before he had gotten off the mark, nicking a drive to be caught low down by wicketkeeper Ben Foakes going to his right.

Roach then accounted for opener Rob Yates after he had converted his overnight 10 to 32, the left-hander missed one that seamed back to be plumb lbw.

However, Lamb found an ally in Sam Haines, who made 78, and the pair put on 157 for the fifth wicket to deny Surrey any further immediate success.

Lamb, a 25-year-old right-hander, counted 17 fours and a six in a knock spanning 138 balls in just short of three hours while Hain, 26, faced 228 balls in nearly 5-½ hours at the crease and struck seven fours.

When Lamb became left-arm seamer Reece Topley’s (2-81) second wicket, Haines remained entrenched to add a further 65 for the sixth wicket with Dan Mousley (43) to frustrate Surrey.

At Hove, Bermudian all-rounder Delray Rawlins claimed two for 113 as Nottinghamshire, resuming on 214 for five, piled up 534 for nine declared in reply to Sussex’ 375.

Captain Steven Mullaney, unbeaten on 79 overnight, made 192 while number nine Joey Evison struck an unbeaten 109 to heap further misery on the hosts.

At the close, Sussex were 29 for one, trailing overall by 130 runs.
