Regional Division Three police on Saturday afternoon arrested a 25-year-old labourer from Crane, West Coast Demerara after they discovered a bag containing 34 grams of suspected cannabis in a plant pot about six feet from where the suspect was standing on the road.
According to a police report, acting on information received, police ranks went to Lite Street, Crane between 5:40 pm and 6:30 pm where the unnamed suspect was.
In a police statement it was said that when ranks arrived at the scene, the suspect who was clad in black pants and a black jersey was standing on the eastern side of the road at the entrance of a shop and was acting in a suspicious manner.
A police corporal then approached the man and carried out a search on his person in the presence of another rank but nothing of evidential value was found. The search which extended to the surrounding area led to a plant pot about six feet away from the suspect. In checking the pot, police found a black, bulky plastic bag hidden in the pot.
The bag which was opened in the presence of the suspect revealed a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana. The suspect was then told of the allegation and under caution he replied, “Da is not me thing big boy, I just come from work”.
The corporal present then took the bag with the substance in his possession before arresting the suspect and escorting him to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station. The suspected narcotics was weighed, placed into an evidence bag, marked, sealed and lodged in the ‘general property book’ with the station sergeant.
The suspect was afterwards placed in custody at the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station.
