Gaico gets $569.3m contract to dredge Pomeroon River mouth

The Ministry of Agriculture yesterday signed contracts worth $1.3 billion for 35 projects countrywide, with Gaico Construction and General Services Inc being allocated the largest – $569.3 million for the dredging of the Pomeroon River mouth.

Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha said that the dredging of the Pomeroon River mouth will bring relief to farmers in the area who have been affected by floods time and time again.

General Equipment Guyana Limited received the second largest contract of $143.1 million to provide two complete sets of land levelling equipment for the Guyana Sugar Corporation, as well as a turbine for the Uitvlugt Estate. The land levelling equipment will contribute to the development of 50 per cent of the lands which are earmarked to be converted over a four-year period at Albion estate.

The ministry also awarded three contracts to Farm Supplies Limited for a total of $93 million for the supply, delivery, and testing, of two Super Long Reach Hydraulic Excavators for the Mahaica/Mahaicony/Abary – Agricultural Development Authority (MMA-ADA); supply and delivery of a generator for the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC), and supply and delivery of agro-processing equipment for White Water Creek, Mabaruma, Region One.

A $67.7 million contract was granted to Advanced Engineering for the construction of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) office and living quarters.

B S Narine and Sons received $56.1 million for the construction of an access road to Onderneeming in Region Two.

Triven Turbine was awarded the contract for supply and delivery of a Single Stage Steam Turbine for Uitvlugt factory to the tune of $53.4 million.

For the rehabilitation of the NDIA pontoons in regions Two, Six and Ten, S. Jagmohan Construction & General Supplies Inc received $52.5 million.

A&S General Store received four contracts totalling $48.8 million for the empoldering of farmlands in the Upper and Lower Pomeroon, Region Two.

For the empoldering of farmlands in the Lower Pomeroon on behalf of the NDIA, Adamantium Holdings received three contracts totaling $38.2 million.

Kascon Engineering Services received $29.5 million for the construction of irrigation structures and rehabilitation of flood embankments at Kortberaad and Mara, East Bank Berbice. Once constructed, the flood embankment will provide ease to over 10,000 acres of farmlands and will see the resuscitation and opening of approximately 17,000 acres of new lands.

The sum of $27 million was awarded to S&J Services & Supplies in two contracts for the empoldering of farmlands in the Upper Pomeroon.

$24.1 million was awarded to DBL Group for the rehabilitation of the MMA-ADA Seed Processing Facility.

The ministry awarded three contracts to General Marine Company in three lots for a total amount of $20.7 million for the supply and delivery of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) pipes for Brackish Water Shrimp Project at Fisheries.

Guyana Tractor and Equipment received $19.2 million for the supply, delivery, and testing of a new tractor to MMA-ADA. 

Also awarded a contract each for the empoldering of farmlands in the Lower Pomeroon were Arabzee Trading, and Zaiboon Nesha Investments. They received $13.6 million and $13.4 million respectively.

Paramlall Goberdan Contracting was granted $12.8 million for the empoldering of farmlands in Bethany Creek, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.

Wild Oats Civil and Mechanical Engineering received $12.3 million for the empoldering of farmlands in Supenaam Creek, Region Two.

The contract for the foundation and installation of a storage plant for corn and soya bean was given to SRKN Engineering & Associates Ltd in the amount of $10.5 million.

CB & Associates received $8.9 million for the execution of geotechnical investigation along the foreshores of Perth to Paradise, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.

Digital Technology Group & Company Inc was allotted $8.8 million for the supply, delivery, and installation of a computer server for NAREI.

A Nazier and Son Contracting and General Supplies received one of three contracts awarded for the empoldering of farmlands in Supenaam Creek, Region Two, in the amount of $7.9 million.

Webster Engineering Services was awarded a contract for the supply and delivery of agro-processing equipment for White Water Creek, Mabaruma, Region One.

The ministry also awarded a contract to National Refrigeration for the supply and delivery of a chiller for GMC in the amount of $5.6 million.
