The National Sports Commission (NSC) has presented GYD$3,000,000 to the national female hockey team which will participate at this year’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games qualifying tournament in Hamilton, Bermuda.
Guyana, seeded 66th, will open their campaign against 49th ranked Puerto Rico tomorrow before battling 73rd ranked Bermuda Saturday. Their final group fixture will occur against 63rd ranked Jamaica on Sunday.
The top two finishers will advance to the 2023 CAC Games in El Salvador.
Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, made the presentation in the presence of several members of the team and wished the team the best of luck in the tournament.
Guyana participated in the 2018 CAC Games and finished seventh out of eight teams.
Coached by Philip Fernandes, the roster comprises Abosaide Cadogan, Aliyah Gordon, Alysa Xavier, Clayza Bobb, Gabriella Xavier, Kezia Chinian, Kirsten Gomes, Madison Fernandes, Makeda Harding, Marzana Fiedtkou, Mickelly Rahaman, Princessa Wilkie, Samantha Fernandes, Sarah Klautky, Trisha Woodroffe, and Ulrica Sutherland.
The team is also sponsored by GTT, the John Fernandes Group of companies and the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA).
