The recent, dizzying roll out of measures, initiatives, interventions, projects and mega-projects with much vigor and steam in Region Six by the hierarchy of the administration in a matter of days, dominated and took precedence over two recent headlines: ‘Guysuco to reduce sugar production: focus will be on shrimp and hemp – Jagdeo’ (Demerarawaves, April 11), ‘Jagdeo drops another broad hint Skeldon factory won’t be back in business’ (SN April 13). Is the final blow being sounded to sugar resuscitation? Of the measures announced, it is felt the school children breakfast programme should be rolled out across all regions. After all hunger does not discriminate. It is hoped the rollout of this programme will be reviewed to be inclusive.
