As part of government’s commitment to expanding health facilities across the country, and to ensure all citizens have access to quality health care services, the Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony on Tuesday commissioned the refurbished $13.6 million Nappi Health Post in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), according to a Ministry of Health release.
The fully-equipped facility will service approximately 908 residents in Nappi Village and other surrounding villages in the Region. It is fully staffed with two Community Health Workers who, the release said are equipped to offer maternal child health services and outpatient services.
Dr Anthony in his address to the gathering, announced that the Ministry is moving to operationalise the concept of telehealth in Region Nine which will facilitate the distribution of health-related services and information via telecommunication technologies. “We will use the internet to be able to communicate with the doctors in Georgetown who will work with the Community Health Workers to be able to make a diagnosis and offer treatment to patients on the spot.”
Community leaders and residents say they can now “breathe a sigh of relief” knowing that they no longer have to travel to the Lethem Regional Hospital to access health care services, the release added.
