Police in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) are investigating the murder of a 36-year-old woman, whose lifeless body was found with a chop wound to the head last Wednesday morning and a man, with whom she was last seen, has been arrested.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) identified the dead woman as Vanessa Rodrigues, called ‘Chinee girl,’ 36, a resident of Lethem.
In a statement, the GPF confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the woman’s murder, which occurred sometime between last Tuesday and Wednesday at Papi Landing, Middle Mazaruni River.
The GPF said enquiries revealed that Rodrigues was last seen sometime in the evening last Tuesday in the company of the man who is now in custody.
At around 10:00 hrs the following morning, her body was found lying face down in a track with a chop wound to her head. There were several other marks of violence about her body.
The man was subsequently arrested.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted this week.
