Dear Editor,
The vexatious matter of the Ministry of Health official acting like the law unto himself at a recent cremation (SN April15), is a manifestation of the authority public officials assume and are allowed to assume, and as reported in the particular case, without any pushback by the grieving relatives, who accepted the antics of the official. It begs just what was the purpose of the course of action by the official other than a grand show of sheer power and dominance? This matter is an affront not only to the deceased, family and mourners but to a major religion and warrants an investigation and apology to the family. The official disrespected, without just cause, a religious and cultural occasion. That is unforgettable.
Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
