Guyana’s national female hockey team suffered its second loss in the 2022 Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Games Qualifiers, losing to the unbeaten host nation Bermuda 0-1 yesterday in Hamilton, Bermuda.
The loss effectively extinguished any hopes of Guyana qualifying for the second round, after Mallory Towlson separated the two sides with a 60th minute conversion.
Racing onto a through pass that split the backline following a counterattack which emanated from her own penalty area, Towlson slotted the ball through the legs of the advancing goalkeeper into the lower right corner from the top of the box.
With the defeat, Guyana remained at the bottom of the group on zero points after they went down to Puerto Rico 0-1 in their opening match. Guyana’s final group fixture will occur against 63rd ranked Jamaica today.
The top two finishers will advance to the 2023 CAC Games in El Salvador. Guyana, who previously featured in the 2018 edition of the CAC Games, and finished seventh out of eight teams, is led by head-coach Philip Fernandes.
The playing roster comprises Abosaide Cadogan, Aliyah Gordon, Alysa Xavier, Clayza Bobb, Gabriella Xavier, Kezia Chinian, Kirsten Gomes, Madison Fernandes, Makeda Harding, Marzana Fiedtkou, Mickelly Rahaman, Princessa Wilkie, Samantha Fernandes, Sarah Klautky, Trisha Woodroffe, and Ulrica Sutherland.
