Guyana will no longer be hosting the 50th CARIFTA Games next year after interest faded and there was no communication with NACAC.
The announcement was made yesterday at the CARIFTA Games Congress in Kingston, Jamaica where the 49th edition of the Games is ongoing.
This was confirmed to this publication by General Secretary for NACAC, Keith Joseph, who stated that The Bahamas will play host the event next year for the eighth occasion.
“Guyana seemingly lost interest to the extent that a formal bid was never submitted. NACAC had little choice but to put before the CARIFTA Congress yesterday the formal application of The Bahamas,” said Joseph of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Bahamas being the lone candidate was approved for 2023.
Joseph stated that he was disappointed since Guyana had begun aggressively preparing to host the event in 2022 when suddenly communication became mute. He, however, stated that Guyana can submit its bid for 2024. (Emmerson Campbell)
