Four cutlass-wielding bandits yesterday morning attacked and injured a 51-year-old security guard while he was on duty at the Gafoors Shopping Complex at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Stabroek News was told that Derrick Hansraj of Hyde Park, Timehri, EBD was chopped on his head and knee during the incident which took place around 01.35hrs.
Reports are that Hansraj was making routine checks around the compound when he observed the bandits, whose faces were concealed with cloth, scaling the fence.
The suspects confronted Hansraj and dealt him the chops.
Hansraj whipped out a knife from his pants waist and stabbed two of the suspects about their bodies.
As a result, they aborted their plans and escaped.
Hansraj was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and later referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he is currently admitted as a patient. His condition is listed as stable.
Efforts are being made to review CCTV cameras which monitor the building with the aim of identifying the suspects.
