Melanie sealed their berth in the final of the fourth 592 Beer ‘Skills for Cash’ seven-a-side football tournament, defeating fierce rival Golden Grove 3-1 after earning quarter-final wins at the Victoria Community ground on Thursday.
Kevan Garnett handed Golden Grove the lead slotting home in the third minute, after receiving a cross from the right side.
However, Teshawn Gordon equalized in the 30th minute, blasting into the roof of the net from the right side of the penalty area.
Melanie then took the 2-1 lead, as Gordon recorded his second conversion of the evening, lobbing the ball over the advancing goalkeeper into the right corner, after racing into the left of the penalty area.
The scoreline was then sealed in the 50th minute, as Darrel Joseph blasted into the back of the net from the left side of the penalty area, after receiving a pass from the right side.
The tournament resumes at the Rosignol ground on Sunday. The second semi-final will pit Rosignol against Monedderlust. The resulting tournament victor will receive $300,000, whilst the second, third and fourth place finishers will pocket $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000 respectively.
