The two men who were busted by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) last Saturday in Lamaha Gardens were remanded to prison yesterday for allegedly having in their possession a quantity of cocaine and ganja.
The charges were read separately to them.
Keith King, 55, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the George-town Magistrate’s Court.
King denied that on April 16, 2022 at Bel Air Avenue, Lamaha Gardens, Georgetown, he had in his possession 2.292 kilogrammes (kg) of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Meanwhile, Dexter Stuart, 49, who appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magis-trate’s Court before Magistrate Faith McGusty, also denied the allegation which states that on the said date and at the said address, he had 64 grams of cannabis also for the purpose of trafficking.
Bail were denied for both men by the respective magistrates.
King will make his next court appearance on May 10 at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, Stuart’s matter was also adjourned for May 10 but was transferred to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
CANU had previously reported that during an operation at Bel Air Avenue, Lamaha Gardens, they found two parcels of cocaine and an amount of ganja.
As a result, the men were escorted to CANU’s headquarters where the narcotics tested positive for cocaine and cannabis.
The substances were weighed and showed the cocaine with a total of weight of 2.292 kg, with a street value of approximately $2.4 million, while the cannabis weighed 64 grams.
