Following the breaking away of part of the sluice door at the Windsor Forest koker, on the West Coast of Demerara, temporary stop logs have been placed to help prevent the heavy spring tide from doing further damage and causing flooding.

Stabroek News visited the koker yesterday where a team from the Sea Defence Board and the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) were seen trying to retrieve the situation with temporary stop-logs. The sluice broke away on Sunday afternoon due to the high spring tide.

According to one Sea Defence officer who wish-ed not to be named, it was the eastern door guide that broke away. “During the peak of the spring tide on Sunday afternoon the eastern door guide had failed for the sluice and thus there are some damages… our contractors are putting in temporary stop logs for now.”

It is however unclear as to how soon it will be replaced by a permanent door.
