Fresh off completing a two-week camp with Cricket West Indies, Guyanese left-hander, Chandrapaul Hemraj has a lot to take away from what he calls an “eye-opening” session.
One of the major takeaways for the 28-year-old was the maximizing of scoring options around the field.
“It’s been a great two weeks in Antigua,” said Hemraj.
“Much emphasis was on batting the spinners and finding different options to score off. A lot of work was done on sweeps and reverse sweeps,” he added.
“I’m genuinely aggressive and being able to find different options to score risk free adds a plus to my game,” said the Everest Cricket Club’s opening batsman.
The white-ball skills camp featured 16 players with Hemraj joined by countrymen, Keemo Paul and Nial Smith.
It focused on improving the skill sets of the players as the West Indies look ahead to two major global events over the next two years, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia later this year and the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup to be played in India.
“Yeah, I’m very elated to be back in West Indies set up and it’s a step closer to be back in the maroon colours,” he told this publication yesterday.
He pointed out that outside of the camp he has been working extremely hard to get himself ready for whenever the opportunity comes.
The Strathavon-born big hitter has represented West Indies in six One Day Internationals while featuring in 33 First Class and 40 List A matches.
Hemraj will soon pad up for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2022 Caribbean Premier League where he hopes to put into play what he has learnt.
