A captain’s innings from Georgetown Cricket Club’s (GCC) Zachary Jodah led GCC to a three-wicket win over Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) recently.
Playing in the Georgetown Cricket Association/Ramchand Auto Spares/Survival Group of Companies/Trophy Stall Under-19 50-over tournament at GCC, the visitors won the toss and batted, posting 172 all out in 48 overs. GCC, in reply, reached 176 for seven with 22 balls to spare.
Jodah, a former Guyana U15 captain played a patient innings and worked the ball along the ground and through the gaps on his way to 57 not out, hitting one four and one six. He was supported by Thaddeous Lovell who struck two fours and a six in 22.
Aryan Persaud chipped in with 21 while Rivaldo Phillips (19) and Omari Lallbachan (13) provided useful cameos. Off-spinner, Ezekiel Wilson, was the principal wicket taker, returning 3-19 while Inderjeet Nanan bagged 2-21.
Earlier, Phillips and Lovell rocked DCC with three wickets apiece for 27 and 39 runs respectively. Off-spinner, Krsna Singh ended with 2-20.
DCC’s innings was crafted around former youth wicketkeeper/batsman, Shamar Yearwood, who hammered eight fours and a six during his 59-run innings before holding out to Jodah off of Darshan Persaud.
Nanan carved two boundaries in 38 while Gustavo Hutson and Shivkumar Permaul scored 16 and 15 runs respectively.
